The function of this department is to provide for the special needs of archival information preserved on a medium other than paper.

The objectives of the department are:

Preservation of audio-visual material:
1. Storage in suitable conditions in terms of temperature and relative humidity
2. Conversion from analogue to digital format.

Putting material at the disposal of the public.

Registration and cataloguing of the Israel State Archives audio-visual collections.

The audio-visual material in the Israel State Archives includes:

1. Film collection (cinema)
2. Audio collection (audio tapes and recordings)
3. Photograph collection (stills)
